“Continuous effort – not strength or intelligence – is the key to unlocking our potential.” Sir Winston Churchill

Continuous effort. Perseverance. Never giving up. Grace under pressure.  You’re going to hear these buzz words throughout the remainder of the Olympic Games.  And, you’re going to hear them a lot from me, as well.

Michael Phelps, gold medalist, said in a  recent interview, “The best athletes can compete under any circumstances.  No matter what it is, no matter what the pressure, you can always overcome whatever is put in your way.”

And Shawn Johnson, our newest gold medalist, says about her practice prior to her beam routine, “I was getting too worried, but he took me out of it. I sat down and calmed down and got back and did one more routine, then went out (to compete).”

Are you burning out?  Rejection letters piling up? Maybe you’ve written draft upon draft and still cannot pinpoint the theme of your story.  It is not the craft, style or voice that will get you through to the other side.  It is pushing through the wall, it is your perseverance that will bring you success.

How are you going to push through today? How do these young athletes inspire you to follow your passion of writing and focus on the gold?

For the first five writers to comment today, I will send you 12 pages of inspirational quotes (via a pdf download)!
